Meditation – Vipassana


Meditation – the art of thinking or rather art of thinking objectively.  This is what I know of meditation – to think deeply, to the bottom most layer without emotions, without being an affected or vested party.

If you are in SE Asia and trying to understand Buddhism, you would hear about meditation and its importance to and according to the monks.  There are various techniques of meditation, and Vipassana is one of them, especially in Burma / Myanmar.  If you wish to learn this technique then Myanmar is an excellent place or any one of the centers of www.dhamma.org  (more…)

Selecting your Travel Bag


Bags / Rucksacks / Backpacks – The very important but not best understood and easily ignored.  My house is full of examples of mediocre / value for money (read low cost) bags which we don’t use any more as they give up from one corner or other when packed full in middle of journey.

Dudhsagar – The Jharna Trip


What do you do when a friend’s message pops up – Dudhsagar falls tomorrow?  If you are in Mumbai you will probably say yes.  What if you are in 1700km away?

So this is how it went.  It was around 10:30AM on Saturday morning that this message comes.  I wonder what and where is Dudhsagar Waterfall? I google and find that it is the fifth biggest waterfall in India.  I talk to him.  Unsure how exactly it will be, I ask him again.  His answer – come, it will great, worth it. (more…)

Views of Taj Mahal


Visiting Taj Mahal is at the top of the list for anyone who is coming to India for the first time or visiting the region.  Taj Mahal carries lot of reputation of being a beautiful structure and visitors getting awestruck and rightly so.  However, just seeing it plainly on a clear morning might not be the best way to appreciate and enjoy the beauty.  There are atleast seven different views of Taj Mahal and each provides its own uniqueness.  I will list them in increasing order I feel will be the best to see the Taj.  Best view is the last view.
